We really know how to celebrate

If you think that Curaçao festivities begin and end at the beach, think again. Our island has great festivals year round, celebrating culture, food, music and more. Why not join in on the fun? There's no better way to get to know Curaçao.

Caribbean Navy Days

You have always wanted to test your sea legs, conquer an obstacle course or wanted to rush down a death slide? Simply come to the Caribbean Navy Days 2008 on Curacao. During this maritime spectacle in the heart of Willemstad, the Royal Dutch Navy and the Coastguard of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba will show you what they stand for: peace and security at and from the sea!

During these three days there will be a maritime spectacle around the Annabaai in Willemstad. We refer here to the Caribbean Navy Days. Everyone is invited to the opening concert of the Band of the Royal Marines on Friday, May 16th. Together with local artists these imposing musicians will thrill you with their music, ranging from military marching music to swinging salsa at Brionplein.

On Saturday and Sunday we have a program for each and everyone. Go aboard of one of many local or foreign navy and coastguard units, which are moored at the wharfs of Otrobanda and Punda. Or feast your eyes on the many stands and displays. Here you can see how the Marines operate in the snow, how they communicate with each other, and how they can monitor the enemy even when it is dark.

Are you in good physical shape and do you like a challenge? Then visit the Marines' temporary camp at Brionplein and test yourself! Conquer the climbing wall, rush down the death slide, or record the fastest time on cross-country skiing. Even if you do not want to be that active there is enough to see and experience.

Do you like suspense and sensation? Get dazzled at one of the many spectacular shows. Twice daily the navy and the coastguard will show various aspects of their daily work: recueing people that are drowning, intercepting a drugs transport, descending from a helicopter. But also an American F-16 fighter, the DASH-8 coastguard patrol aircraft and various helicopters will perform breathtaking air shows.

On sunday morning there is a moment of reflection when the Navy pastor and a local priest will conduct an open-air oecumenical service. A brass quintet and a gospel choir will add musical luster to the service.

In short; 16 through 18 May is the moment for you to take a look into the world of the Royal Netherlands Navy and the Coastguard of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba.

Admission to the Caribbean Navy Days is free.
