World Cup Football

Soccer is one the biggest and most beloved sports in Curacao; locals love to watch and play 'the beautiful game'. Every two years, during the World Cup and the European Championships, Curacao gets footie fever. Just about everyone has a favorite team, and just about everyone has an opinion.

Most people on Curacao favor the Dutch team, but Spain, Portugal and Italy have a big following as well. During the World Cup, Brazil leads the way, with Argentina also getting a fair share of the attention.

In other words, don't be surprised when you see big groups of people wearing orange or green & yellow shirts fanatically watching big-screen TV's in bars and restaurants or on beaches and squares.
