Every year on the first Saturday of November Curacao is dominated by the Amstel Curacao Race. This cycling event is internationally known as the closing of the street cycling season. At previous editions Alberto Contador, Tom Boonen, Mark Cavendish, Robert Gesink, Alexandre Vinokourov, Michael Boogerd and many other top athletes were present at this event.
In the Amstel Curacao Race tour cyclers and amateurs will compete together with the pros on an 80 kilometers long stretch. It is the only possibility during the year for amateur cyclers to compete together with the celebrities of the Tour de France.
During the week of the Amstel Curacao Race there will be many events around the race. There will be a tug of war, a water spectacle at the Olympic-size pool at Lion's Dive & Beach Resort, performances by well-known artists and THE afterparty of the cycling season at Mambo Beach.
Over the past 10 years this event has won international acclaim and people will flock to the island from Europe, the US and South America bringing with them a festive mood to the whole of Curacao.
