Punda hosts its famous Punda Vibes every Thursday night. Punda Vibes’ mission is to make you fall in love with our dushi Punda. Activities are organized for a pleasant evening of shopping, live music, great local shows and good food with family & friends!
Punda also has a flourishing art scene, and you will find different murals and amazing art shops by local artists when walking through its streets.
A majority of the art shops are located in Winsdtraat or better known as the Art Alley.
The shops are normally open from Monday to Saturday with regular opening hours 9:00am – 6:00pm. On Thursday several shops are open late until 8:00pm for Punda Vibes, and shops also open on Sundays10:00am – 2:00pm when ships are in port.
Punda also named the heart of Curaçao, is the oldest part of our capital Willemstad. The original name of Punda was ‘de punt’ in Dutch. Punda was established in 1634 on the eastern side of Sint Anna Bay. Punda is home to The Mikve Israel Emanual Synagogue, the oldest surviving synagogue in the Americas.Punda has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The modern town consists of several historic districts whose architecture reflects not only European urban-planning concepts but also styles from the Netherlands and from the Spanish and Portuguese colonial towns with which Willemstad engaged in trade.
Fort Amsterdam is a fort located within Punda was constructed by the Dutch West India Company (DWIC) and served not only as a military fort but also as the headquarters of the DWIC. Currently it serves as the seat of the government and governor of Curaçao. The fort is named after the Amsterdam chamber of the DWIC and was considered the main of eight forts on the island of Curacao.
