Culture Cuisine & Heritage Experience
“Bon Bini” means “Welcome” in Curaçao’s indigenous language, Papiamentu, which is as diverse as the island itself, being comprised of Spanish, Dutch and African languages.
We would like to extend an invitation to you to celebrate the multiplicity of this vibrant Dutch Caribbean Island during the Forth Annual Culture, Cuisine & Heritage Experience, August 15 – November 15, 2009.
Curaçao is home to descendants from more than 55 different nationalities, each with their own unique customs and traditions. The rich European culture of Curaçao is evident in the colorful Dutch architecture showcased in the capital city of Willemstad, which was named a “UNESCO World Heritage Site” in 1997 putting it on the list of some the world’s most famous landmarks. Curaçao’s Jewish heritage dates back almost 400 years when the first Jews arrived on island. The Mikve Israel-Emanuel Synagogue with its symbolic sand floor and old world architecture is the oldest house of worship in continuous use today, in the Western Hemisphere.
African ancestry and influences are celebrated in Curaçao and can be seen and heard in the local language, cuisine, religion and music. The Museum Kura Hulanda is located on the site of a former slave yard and is home to the largest African collection of artifacts in the Caribbean.
Visitors will have the opportunity to learn first hand about this special and unique island and its eclectic mix of cultures. Daily activities and events will provide visitors with a glimpse into Curaçao’s multi-dimensional past and the resulting flavors found on the island today. Additionally, throughout the three month celebration, you will be able to taste the many different local dishes, all at a special price.
During your visit be sure to save time for Curaçao’s many attractions, including shopping, golfing, casinos and beaches.
We invite you to visit, discover and experience Curaçao, a Real Different Island.
